37 Years For Deadly Grocery Dhopping Hit And Run

A man was sentenced to 37 years in prison on Thursday for killing a North Spokane father and husband.

Kevin Smith was on his way to the grocery store in 2013 when his truck was hit by Bryan Storms’ vehicle. Authorities said Storms was high on meth and tried to run from the scene. He was charged with vehicular homicide.

Smith’s wife, Renee, never missed a court appearance for the man who she said murdered the love of her life and the father of her two sons.

Renee wrote a letter for a victim advocate to read at Storms’ sentencing.  In the letter, she said she spends most of her life grieving the loss of her husband.

Her letter begged the judge to give Storms the maximum sentence because he is a repeat offender and a drug addict.

She said a stiff sentence would provide some sense of peace. The judge granted her request and gave Storms what the court calls an exceptional sentence.
